The Youth in Localities team consists of Community Based Youth Workers / Youth Support Workers and Volunteers, working in targeted areas across the City with the aim of ensuring that at risk young people have access to positive activities within their communities. The team also support community groups that are already delivering or aspire to deliver youth work in communities to help ensure quality, sustainability and co-ordination.
The Youth in Localities team is part of the 0-19 Targeted and Preventative Services working in partnership with Childrens Social Care, Adolescent Intervention Service, Young People Employment Services and other Youth Services Providers to support young people who are at risk to access the right support at the right time. Youth Workers strive to support young people to learn in an informal and experiential way helping them to stay safe and to be their best.
Youth in Localities Team offer the following services
•Street Youth Work (To engage with those young people who may be taking risks and signpost them to positive activity)
•Open Youth Projects (To engage young people in areas of high antisocial behaviour and crime to give them places to go and things to do)
•Targeted Youth Work Projects (Working with specific Young People in groups to bring about change)
•One to One Youth Work Mentoring (Working with specific individuals to motivate them and link them to positive activity)
•One to One Casework (Working with identified young people to keep them safe and practically support them with positive change)
Working in Partnership
•Supporting other organisations to deliver safe and effective youth work opportunities through the Youth Work Quality Assurance System.
•Supporting other organisations to identify and apply for funding which builds Youth Work capacity and sustainability.
•Co-ordinating and Communicating Youth Work opportunities across communities to make best use of resources available.
