Community car schemes

Community car schemes  are operated by volunteers for people who have difficulty using  public transport.  Volunteer drivers provide this service with their own cars for a small charge.  It is much cheaper than using a taxi.  The service must be booked 24 to 48 hours in advance.  Some schemes specialise in transport to medical appointments while others cater for other  journey requirements e.g social visits..

How to volunteer

Many community transport schemes rely on volunteers to help with driving or co-ordinate the route planning. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed according to the mileage rate for their vehicle. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the scheme that is nearest to you. If you require any more information please contact the Accessibility and Travel Group on 01733 317465.
