Highway drainage and cleansing

When it rains the surface water that collects on roads and footpaths can cause difficulties for highway users.   Drains are cleaned on a regular basis to ensure that water is removed as quickly as possible .

During prolonged spells of heavy rainfall the sewers can become full and having reached its full capacity excess water cannot drain away.  Until the rain stops or eases off it is difficult to determine whether the gulley drain is blocked.  However if the surface water remains for some time it is likely the gulley may be blocked and therefore requires attention.

For further information on our highway gullies and how to report any concerns, please see our Drainage FAQ page.

Sewerage issues

  • We are not responsible for blocked sewerage drains, these issues lie with Anglian Water.
  • If you live in a rented property please contact your landlord.
  • If you own your own property you are responsible for the drains until they meet the Anglian Water sewerage connection.
