Licence summary
In order to regulate the placing of objects or structures on, in
or over the highway you are required to obtain a licence. This is
in accordance with the Highways Act 1980.
A Highway can include roads, pavements and verges.
You will be required to allow at least 28 working days between
the date of the receipt of the application for a licence, and the
date on which the application is intended to commence.

The applicant must have public liability insurance to a minimum
of £5,000,000

Application evaluation process
The following criteria must be considered when the application
is being evaluated.
- Does the proposal interfere with or impede the flow of traffic
(vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists etc)
- Does the structure compromise visibility at a junction.
- What is the duration of the licence.
- Is the highway surface adequately protected.
- Will any highway drains or utility access chambers be
obstructed.
- Have the adjoining frontagers raised any objections to the
consultation.
- Has at least 28 calendar days notice been given from receipt of
application.
Will tacit consent apply?
Yes - this means that you will be able to act as though your
application is granted if you have not heard otherwise from
Peterborough City Council by the end of the target completion
period (28 calendar days from the date your application was
accepted).

Failed application redress
Any applicant who is refused a licence can appeal to the
Streetworks Team.
Licence holder redress
Any licence holder who wishes to appeal
against a condition attached to their licence can appeal to
Peterborough City Council Streetworks Team, contact details as
above.
