Frequently asked questions

I have planning permission, how are addresses allocated?

Official addresses are only allocated when planning permission has been granted,  construction work has commenced and prior to any occupation. New road names require the consultation and agreement of various offical bodies including the Emergency Serivces and Royal Mail. When proposing road names they must not duplicate or be similar to exisitng road names in the area.  They should have a historical connection.

How long does this process take?

It will take six to eight weeks for the Street naming and numbering team to issue official addresses.  It is the developer's responsibility to contact the authority promptly to allow sufficient time for addresses to be issued.

Do I need to send any information?

To allocate official addresses we require two site plans of the development layout as used for getting planning approval.  For apartments or flats plans will be required for each floor.  You need to ask for official addresses before the premises are occupied but wait until construction has started.  Send this information to highways@peterborough.gov.uk
