Personal disabled parking bay requests
Disabled users may park on yellow lines as long as it
is doesn't cause an obstruction. Parking outside or near to
your home, though, can sometimes be a problem. In these
circumstances you may apply for an on-street disabled parking bay
to be marked out assuming you have a disabled
parking badge .
The application process
The request for a disabled parking bay may come from a number of
different sources. It could come from you, your doctor,
social services or any other interested person. To start the
process of getting a bay marked out, you must be the holder of a
blue or orange badge, be the driver of the vehicle, and have no
access to off road parking. The road will be checked for any
existing resistrictions.
If no restrictions are found a letter list ing criteria that you
must fulfil will be sent to you. Passengers cannot
apply for a bay unless there are exceptional circumstances.
You will need to return a copy of your blue or orange badge
together with a form (supplied) ,completed by your GP confirming
you cannot walk more than the 20m stated in the letter.
Once the form has been returned, and a copy of your badge has been
received, a parking survey is carried out. This is carried out 5 or
6 times in any one day to check the parking situation at your
address. Once completed, a decision will be taken
as to whether or not a marked bay is necessary , according to
the level of difficulty in parking close to your
home. You will be informed of the application result by
letter. If you are successful your immediate neighbours will also
be informed that a disabled bay is to be marked out. Depending
on the weather it usually takes about 4 weeks for the bay to be
marked out.
