In-car safety
Every year over 14,000 children are injured while travelling in
cars. If you are unrestrained In a crash at 30mph you will hit
the front seat and anyone in it with a force of between 30 and 60
times your own body weight. This could result in death or
serious injury to you and the people sitting in the front seat.
For your own and other's safety, the law requires that
- you use a seat belt if one is fitted
- children up to 135cms tall use a child restraint.
For further information regarding the law for seat belts please
visit the Department for Transport.
Child seats
Children aren’t big enough to travel without a child seat until they are
about 150cms tall. Until then the adult belt will not fit
safely. There are several different types. Choose the right
seat for your child’s age and weight and make sure it is fitted
properly every time you use it.
