Street lighting

To report a problem with a street light or illuminated traffic sign or bollard please contact the street lighting team. There is a voicemail messaging service available for out-of-hours routine messages. Please provide the location of the street light with as much detail as possible (street or road name, outside which house number) and give the number if marked (usually found on the side facing the road) together with a description of the fault e.g.  ‘light off at night’, ‘light on in daytime’ or damaged due to vandalism’.

Emergencies (where there is an immediate danger to life) will normally be dealt with within one hour.  Please telephone 01733 453523 during normal office hours.  For emergencies after office hours, please call 01733 864157 (weekdays between 6pm and 8am). Normal street lighting repairs are attended to within 10 days of report.  Failure of the electrical supply will be dealt with by the electricity company and will take longer than a normal repair. Street lights should operate from dusk until dawn, while lights in pedestrian subways are usually on 24 hours a day.
