Traffic levels on Paston Parkway are already high with in excess
of 25000 vehicles travelling along the link each day. This results
in extreme link congestion, particularly southbound during the AM
peak period, causing traffic to 'rat run' on less suitable roads.
The purpose of dualling Paston Parkway between Junction 21 and 22
is to facilitate future housing development in the north of
Peterborough; reduce congestion and reduce 'rat-running' on less
suitable roads.
To do nothing to the highway network whilst adding the extra
traffic associated with additional development would cause
additional delays to current users. In addition such traffic growth
would exacerbate environmental problems such as noise and air
pollution. The council held an exhibition in December 2006
outlining the proposed improvements to Paston Parkway.
