Public exhibition
The public exhibition was held on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday
15th October 2008 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Church of Our Lady of
Lourdes, Welland Road, Dogsthorpe. Traffic modelling indicates that
without introducing a traffic calming scheme the volume of two-way
traffic on Welland Road will increase significantly. Residents were
able to comment on the proposed plans, make suggestions and speak
with council officers and Atkins Consultants.
A wide range of measures were considered for implementation
along Welland Road including priority junctions with build outs,
speed cushions, mini roundabouts and speed tables. Options included
are:
- A gateway feature from the A47 (just west of the recycling
centre)
- A weight restriction on lorries entering the Welland Road
between the recycling centre and Dogsthorpe Road
- Three zebra crossings: Tesco Garage, Spar shop and Post
Office
- Some protected 'on road' parking on the north side of Welland
Road
A variant outline design option, using a mixture of raised
tables and speed cushions was presented as the Preferred Option at
the public exhibition.
