Promoting car sharing in your workplace
Regardless of whether you have a travel plan, there are some
simple measures you could implement to increase the number of
people car sharing in your workplace. Take your pick from the
suggestions below:
- Promote www.carsharepeterborough.com
to staff via newsletters, notice boards, on payslips, emails and
posters.
- Take a look at the free posters and materials available to
download.
- Provide dedicated priority parking for staff that car share.
Develop a
suitable monitoring/enforcement procedure to ensure the spaces are
not abused. Signs and random spot checks can help. Permit systems
will help ensure the spaces are used correctly. Travelchoice can
provide advice on what could work for you.
- Provide a guaranteed ride home service for car sharers in case
of an emergency. This means that if a staff member is stranded (for
example if their car share partner goes home sick) then they will
be able to get home (whether via a taxi journey paid for by the
company, bus trip, lift from a colleague etc). Though rarely used
it is an inexpensive way of encouraging car sharing and is unlikely
to cost more than £500 per year for a large organisation.
- Promote National Liftshare Day.
- Hold a 'car share coffee morning'. Staff interested in car
sharing are invited to meet potential sharers, recieve guidance and
have questions answered.
- Add a prominent link on your company website.
- Offer incentives to car sharers, for example prize draws for a
free car wash, MOT, valet etc.
- Put case studies of regular car sharers in newsletters; ensure
the scheme gets lots of internal coverage.
Travelchoice have two large car share banners available for
businesses to borrow. Simply hang the banner up in your company car
park or staff entrance for instant impact. To borrow the banner,
email Travelchoice@peterborough.gov.uk
to arrange delivery.
We also have a number of free promotional materials we can
