LOCAL SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT
FUND
The Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund makes £560
million available to local authorities across the country for
transport measures focused on addressing the challenges of economic
growth and reducing carbon emissions.
On 18 April 2011, Peterborough City Council submitted a bid
totalling almost £5m to the Department for Transport to deliver a
package of sustainable travel measures across the authority area
between 2011 and 2015.
Building on Peterborough’s successful Travelchoice project the
bid will deliver a step change in transport provision.
Developed with a wide range of partners from across the
public, private and third sectors, the bid focuses on walking,
cycling, community transport, transport interchange and the
promotion and marketing of sustainable travel and includes:
· Improvement to
the access at Peterborough’s rail and bus stations
· Cycle
infrastructure improvements as well as marketing and promotional
campaigns to improve awareness and influence travel behaviour
· Provision of
mini park and ride sites
· Individual,
business and school travel planning initiatives
· Promotions and
activities to raise awareness of the health benefits of active
travel
· Innovative
technology based solutions to the provision of transport
information
It is expected that a decision on whether the
bid is acceptable will be taken by the Department for Transport by
the end of June.
The application form and associated appendices can be viewed at

2011.
