Could you walk to work instead of using the
car? Would it be just as simple to use the bus to get to the shops
instead of driving?
These are the kinds of questions Peterborough
City Council's Travelchoice team will be asking residents during
Travelchoice Week which runs between Monday 3 October and Friday 7
October 2011.
During the week posters will be displayed
around Peterborough encouraging people to use sustainable forms of
transport, such as walking, cycling or public transport, instead of
using the car. The city council's Travelchoice team will also be
running activities and challenges at local schools and businesses,
with some great prizes up for grabs.
Peterborough City Council's Sustainable Travel
Officer Matthew Barber said: “Travelchoice Week 2011 provides us
with the ideal platform to encourage people to look at trying more
sustainable modes of transport such as walking, cycling and
catching the bus. I hope as many people as possible take a few
minutes to look at how they are travelling and consider the
benefits of changing their travel behaviour; even if it was just
for one journey per week."
Councillor Samamtha Dalton, Cabinet Member for
Environment Capital, said: "Travelchoice Week could be the kick
start people need to leave their cars at home and try out more
sustainable ways of exploring our city. Cycling, walking and using
the bus are all better for the environment and build upon our
growing national reputation as the UK's environment capital."
