Community Car Schemes
Community car schemes are for
people who have difficulty using public transport or who have no
access to public transport. The schemes operate similar to a
taxi service but are run by volunteers. Although there is a charge
for using the service, it is much cheaper than a taxi. The service
usually must be booked 24 to 48 hours in advance. Some
schemes specialise in transport to medical appointments while
others will undertake journeys for a variety of
reasons.

How to volunteer
Many community transport schemes rely on
volunteers to help with driving or co-ordinate the route planning.
Volunteer drivers are reimbursed according to the mileage rate
for their vehicle. If you are interested in volunteering please
contact the scheme that is nearest to you. If you require any more
information please contact the Transport and Sustainable
Environment Team on 01733 317465 or email buses@peterborough.gov.uk
