Sustainable Mode of Travel StrategySMoT

The Sustainable Mode of Travel Strategy (SMoTS) has been developed in responce to a statutory requirement from the Government (The Education and Inspections Act 2006 - section 76).

The strategy outlines Peterborough's existing sustainable school travel options and sets out how these options are going to be developed in the future to assist parent's/carers when choosing schools they would like their child(ren) to attend and to make walking/cycling and pupil transport a realistic and attractive option for journeys to and from schools.

For more information please refer to the Educational and Inspections Act 2006

Why produce a SMoT?

In recent years there has been a growing awareness of the links between education provisions and transport. Coupled with this, there is greater environmental awareness and a desire to achieve sustainability in transport and education policies and provisions. This is all set against a background of increasingly complex educational travel demands.

What information is contained within the strategy?

The strategy covers the period from November 2007 to MArch 2011, in line within Peterborough Second Local Transport Plan (LTP2)

The strategy looks at sustainable travel options to and from school for childrenm young people of compulsory school age and sixth form students (if they started a course of further education before their 19th birthday and are still participating in that course).
