The council is required by national guidance to keep under review its conservation areas to ensure that their special character continues to be protected, and to bring forward measures for their enhancement.

The Pilsgate convservation area was designated in 1979 in recognition of its special character. The council has prepared a draft 'Pilsgate Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan' for public consultation.

The purpose of the appraisal is to:

  • identify the special character of the area
  • review the conservation area boundary
  • provide a basis for considering planning proposals that affect the area
  • make recommendations to ensure its special qualities are retained and enhanced.

The draft appraisal can be viewed by clicking on the link to the right or at the Town Hall, Bridge Street or at Bayard Place, Broadway. Copies are also available on request.
