Ailsworth Neighbourhood Plan - Referendum

A referendum on the Ailsworth Neighbourhood Plan will be held on Thursday 2 November 2017.

The Referendum will be open to all voters registered as a local government elector, residing within the Ailsworth parish area at 17 October 2017.

The plan contains a number of policies that will affect planning applications that may come forward in the Ailsworth neighbourhood area.  The policies include requirements that relate to character, wildlife, open spaces, historic environment, businesses and recreation.

The Ailsworth Neighbourhood Plan has been produced by a neighbourhood plan steering group on behalf of Ailsworth Parish Council alongside the Castor Neighbourhood Plan, on behalf of Castor Parish Council.  The referendum for the Castor Neighbourhood Plan will take place on the same day as the Ailsworth referendum, but only voters registered within Castor parish area will be eligible to vote on that plan.

The referendum will cover all households within the Ailsworth Parish Council area, which is the same area as the designated Ailsworth Neighbourhood Area.

If successful at referendum the Ailsworth Neighbourhood Plan will become part of the Development Plan for the area. This means that policies in the plan will be used in making decisions on planning applications in Ailsworth.

More information on the background of the Ailsworth Neighbourhood Referendum can be found on our Neighbourhood Plan page.

About the referendum

The Ailsworth Neighbourhood Plan will feature a question requiring a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ decision by those voting, specifically:

“Do you want Peterborough City Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Ailsworth Neighbourhood Area to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”

If more than 50 per cent of those that vote choose ‘yes’, then the plan will go to the city council meeting on Wednesday 13 December 2017 to be made part of the development plan for the area.
