Apply for Building Regulations approval

There are two options when submitting an application for Building Regulations approval - Full Plans and Building Notice. You need to submit your application with the required fee before you start work. View our Building Regulations approval fees page. You can contact our office on 01733 453 422 for a quote.

You can pay online directly to Peterborough City Council.

Please use the forms below to apply - Full Plans, Building Notice or Regularisation.

Full Plans application

There are two stages with this type of application:

1. We check the plans you submit and assess the proposed works against the Building Regulations. Where the proposed works comply with the Building Regulations, we will approve those plans submitted to us. You can then pass these to your builder to start work.
2. Once we have approved the plans and work has commenced, we will inspect the work at appropriate stages.

Building Notice application

With this type of application:

• We only carry out the site inspections required to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations.
• We will not check the design of the development before work starts. As such, you must be confident that your builder is familiar with the requirements of the Building Regulations. Otherwise, you may find that changes are required during construction which could result in extra costs.
• You can start work as soon as we have acknowledged your application.

If you have already completed the work (retrospective approval)

If you have already carried out the works and are now looking to confirm that it complies with the Building Regulations, you need to submit an application for regularisation.

Data Protection Act 2018

Peterborough City Council is registered under the Data Protection Act 2018 for the purpose of processing personal data in the performance of its legitimate business. 

Any information held by the council will be processed in compliance with the eight principles of the Act. Further information relating to your rights under the Data Protection Act can be sent to you on request.
