Local Government Association Peer Challenge Report

The Local Government Association Peer Challenge report commends Peterborough City Council for its openness and transparency around its budget issues as one of ten councils who received exceptional financial support from Government in 2020.

The report highlights the council’s success in dealing with the pandemic and achieving significant inward investment and says it should now put this focus and energy into the renewed challenge of achieving lasting financial sustainability.

The review which involved 45 meetings with 230 elected Members, staff and key partners across the City and wider area, highlights that while the council had pre-pandemic plans in place to deliver £11m savings towards a £14m budget gap, more than half of which are still on track - it should now put an immediate two year focus on achieving lasting financial sustainability, and a longer 3-5 year focus on inclusive growth with a clear vision for the future of Peterborough.
