Coronavirus (COVID-19) Business Support Grant Schemes

Introduction

The government has announced a range of grant packages to support local businesses impacted by restriction measures in place to manage the COVID-19 crisis. Further information about each scheme is shown below.

The 2021/22 Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Discretionary scheme is now open for applications.

This scheme is designed to provide support to businesses who have been severely impacted by coronavirus restrictions and who have been unable to access most of the other business related grants, due to either not being within one of the supported sectors or because they do not have a liability for business rates.

The available grants are split in to three different ‘strands’.

Strand 1 (businesses liable for business rates)

This is for businesses:

  • who occupy a property and are liable for the business rates (even if no charge applies due to reliefs/discounts, for example those with small business rates relief).
  • in the supply chain for/support the retail, hospitality and leisure industry OR other businesses severely impacted by COVID-19
  • who can provide evidence showing a reduction in income of at least 30% as a direct result of covid-19 (and not just as a general downturn in business activity).

The amount of grant for those who qualify is as follows:

For properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under

£8,000 grant

For properties with a rateable value between £15,001 - £50,999

£12,000 grant

For properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or over

£18,000 grant

Strand 2 (businesses not liable for business rates. For example; shared spaces, working from home office, etc)

This is for businesses:

  • who are not liable for business rates
  • who can provide evidence showing a reduction in income of at least 30% as a direct result of COVID-19 (and not just as a general downturn in business activity).
  • that can evidence a minimum gross income of at least £25,000 per year

The amount of grant for those who qualify is as follows:

Businesses with no commercial rent, or £1,500 or less per year

£2,500 grant

Businesses with commercial rent above £1,500 per year

£5,000 grant

How to apply

Full details of the scheme, eligibility criteria and evidence requirements can be found in the ARG 2020-21 document at the bottom of this page.

Before claiming please ensure you understand which strand you are claiming for, as claiming under the incorrect strand may delay your application or mean that we are unable to process it and you may be asked to reclaim.

To make a claim please go to Peterborough.GrantApproval.co.uk (this will take you to an external site to make your claim).

Please note: that you will need your property reference to make a claim. You can find this on your business rates bill or online at Gov.uk (referred to here as the local authority reference). This is 12 digits long and is not the same as your 9 digit account number. If you are having difficulty claiming please contact businessrates@peterborough.gov.uk providing full details of the problem, and putting the word ‘Grants’ in the subject heading.

The funding for this scheme is limited and claims will be paid in application date order. Once the funding has run out no further claims will be paid.
