A royal visit and charity afternoon tea keep Mayor busy

The official opening of Thorpe Hall Hospice's new building by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester and a charity afternoon tea for the Mayor's charities are among the dates in the mayoral diary next week.

Tuesday 8 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend the Royal Opening of the new Thorpe Hall Hospice building where the Mayor will also be introduced to HRH Duchess of Gloucester. After the opening there will be a garden party for supporters and volunteers. The event will take place at Thorpe Hall, Thorpe Road, Peterborough between 1pm and 2.30pm.

Tuesday 8 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend the official opening of the New Maples Care Assisted Living Centre. The open day will take place at The Maples, Goldhay Way, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough between 3pm and 5pm.

Wednesday 9 September: The Mayor will visit the Police Boxing Club which will include a tour of the boxing club that has won awards for its work within the community. The visit will take place at Paston Farm Community Centre, Freston, Paston, Peterborough between 6pm and 7pm.

Friday 11 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will welcome visitors to the Mayor's charity afternoon tea. The entrance fee is £2 and all monies raised will go to his chosen charities Age UK Peterborough, Hope in Action, Scout and Guide Movement, and Combined Cadet Force (Thomas Deacon Academy). The event will take place between 2pm and 4pm in the Reception Room, Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough. All are welcome.

Friday 11 September: The Mayor, Mayoress and Deputy Mayor will welcome guests to a presentation of the Freedom of the City to Mr Wyndham Thomas CBE for his contributions to the city. The presentation will take place in the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 6pm and 8pm.

Saturday 12 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend MineVention, a family event for computer fans of the game Minecraft. The event will also include a world record attempt for the largest amount of people to dress as Minecraft's character Steve. The Mayor will make a presentation to open the event and will then attend the gaming event at Peterborough Arena, Peterborough between 3pm and 3.30pm.

Saturday 12 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend The World of Gilbert and Sullivan. The concert will include popular songs and scenes from the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and is a fundraising event for St. Paul's Church.  The concert will take place at the church in Lincoln Road, Peterborough between 7.15pm and 9.45pm.

Sunday 13 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend a Thanks giving Service in aid of the Mayor's chosen charity Hope In Action. The service will take place at Christ The Servant King Church, Hampton Silver Hill, Hampton, Peterborough between 6.15pm and 8.30pm.
