Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth

School pupils and representatives of Peterborough City Council will be flying the flag on Commonwealth Day.

The event will take place on Monday March 14 involving a short ceremony at the Guildhall in Cathedral Square.

A civic procession will leave the Town Hall at 9.45am and the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor John Peach, will read out a prayer for the Commonwealth at 9.55am.

Pupils from Peterborough schools - Abbotsmede Primary School, The Beeches Primary School, Eye C of E Primary School, Gunthorpe Primary School, Ormiston Meadow Academy, Ravensthorpe Primary School, Southfields Primary School and St John’s Church School - will also show pictures of the Commonwealth country flags and announce the country names.

The Commonwealth Flag will then be raised above the Town Hall.

The theme for this year is 'An Inclusive Commonwealth'.

Coinciding with the event, more than 850 flags will be raised in locations throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories, and Commonwealth countries.
