Formal installation and afternoon tea keep Mayor busy

The annual invitation to the public to enjoy afternoon tea with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and Mayoress and the formal installation of the Mayor at Peterborough Cathedral are among the dates in the diary next week.

Monday 27 June
: The Mayor will visit Jack Hunt School which will be welcoming Chinese students and staff from its partner school Gold Apple School, Shanghai, China on their annual exchange. The visit will take place at the school on Ledbury Road, Peterborough between 9am and 10am.

Monday 27 June: The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will welcome residents to join them for a cup of tea, coffee or a cold drink and a selection of sandwiches and cakes in the Reception Room at the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 1pm and 3pm. Students from Arthur Mellows Village College will be providing entertainment and assisting the caterers by serving at the tables. 

Wednesday 29 June: The Deputy Mayor will make a speech and present an award at the Peterborough Eco Education Awards 2016.  This is the seventh annual event to celebrate eco education projects from the past year and will represent 20 Peterborough schools. Skanska, which is the main sponsor, local councillors and environmental education providers will also attend. The awards will take place at The Voyager Academy, Mountsteven Avenue, Peterborough between 12pm and 2.15pm.

Wednesday 29 June: The Mayor will congratulate students and present certificates at 'Have your Say' - a city-wide foreign language speaking competition for Year 8 students in Peterborough. It is the second time this event has taken place and it represents a collaboration between all of the secondary schools in the city. This year it will take place at Thomas Deacon Academy, which won last year's competition, at Queen's Gardens, Peterborough between 4pm and 5pm. 

Wednesday 29 June: The Mayor will welcome students to the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards presentation evening. Young people from across Peterborough will be receiving bronze and silver certificates. The presentations will take place in the Reception Room at the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 6.15pm and 8.15pm.

Thursday 30 June: The Mayor will attend the Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. The service will also be attended by members of the Cameronians and 1st Scottish Rifles Association. The service will take place at Peterborough Cathedral between 10.15am and 11am.

Thursday 30 June: The Mayor will attend the annual service for Jimmy the Donkey in Central Park, Peterborough between 12.30pm and 1.45pm.

Thursday 30 June: The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will attend the 'Taste of Africa' VIP reception hosted by Lord Iveagh, Earl of Elveden. Members of Marshal Papworth will meet this year’s scholarship programme students and see the unveiling of the 2016 African village. The event will take place at the East of England Showground between 6.15pm and 8pm.

Thursday 30 June: The Mayor will address and welcome guests to the Cameronians and 1st Scottish Rifles dinner which will take place at the Bull Hotel, Westgate, Peterborough. The Mayor will also attend the dinner between 7pm and 9pm. 

Friday 1 July: The Mayor will officially welcome both French and English members of the Bourges France Great Britain Association twinning visit. The visit will take place in the Mayor's Parlour at the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 9.30am and 10.45am.

Saturday 2 July: The Mayor will officially open this year's Peterborough Heritage Festival.

Saturday 2 July: The Mayor will make a speech and open Thorney Fun Day. The event is organised by Fenlands Family Church and is free to attend. There will be live music from local bands, a dog show, bouncy castle, barbecue and a number of stalls and attractions. The event will take place at the Bedford Hall, Thorney, Peterborough between 12.45pm and 5pm.

Sunday 3 July: The Deputy Mayor will attend an event to say farewell to the Commanding Officers, Majors Allister and Kathleen Versfeld. The event will take place at the Salvation Army, 1203 Bourges Boulevard, New England, Peterborough between 10.15am and 12noon.

Sunday 3 July: The formal installation of the Mayor Councillor David Sanders will take place at Peterborough Cathedral between 2.30pm and 6pm.
