Graduation ceremony and Sky of Poppies art cascade keep Mayor busy

A graduation ceremony for year 6 and a Battle of the Somme commemoration cascade of poppies are among the dates in the mayoral diary next week.

Monday 4 July
: The Deputy Mayor will attend the official launch of an exhibition to celebrate Shine's Golden Anniversary. Shine provides specialist support throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. The opening will take place at Shine, 42 Park Road, Peterborough between 2pm and 4.30pm.

Tuesday 5 July: The Mayor will hand out dictionaries to children at The Peterborough School Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. A special assembly will mark the children completing junior school before moving up to senior school in September. The ceremony will take place at The Peterborough School, Thorpe Road, Peterborough between 1.45pm and 3pm.

Wednesday 6 July: The Mayor will attend the Sky of Poppies art installation as part of the Battle of the Somme Commemoration, together with the Royal British Legion. Queensgate Shopping Centre has commissioned Peterborough-based international artist, Charron Pugsley-Hill, to create an art installation entitled the Queensgate Sky of Poppies. 100 years on from the Battle of the Somme, over 1,000 handmade felted poppies, representing the 1,000 men that gave their lives at the battle, will cascade from the ceiling of Queensgate to the floor in North Square (outside John Lewis). The Mayor will attend the event between 10am and 11am.

Wednesday 6 July: The Mayor will attend Strawberry Tea in aid of Breast Cancer Research. The event will take place at 8 Lyvelly Gardens, Peterborough between 12noon and 1pm.

Thursday 7 July: The Deputy Mayor will attend Midsummer Cushion Ceremony. The event will take place at St Botolph's Church, Helpston, Peterborough between 1.15pm and 2.45pm.

Thursday 7 July: The Mayor will attend the Excellence in Skills Awards Ceremony where students from Peterborough Regional College will celebrate their achievements from the academic year. The ceremony will take place at Peterborough Cathedral between 6.30pm and 10pm.

Saturday 9 July: The Deputy Mayor will welcome visitors and thank the helpers at Netherton Friendship Club Summer Sale. Raising funds for Netherton Friendship Club, the event will be held at St Andrew's United Reformed Church Hall, Ledbury Rd, Netherton, Peterborough between 10am and 10.30am.

Sunday 10 July: The Mayor will visit Eye Open Space Group's seventh Summer Fun Day. The event will take place at Manor Farm Park at the rear of Eye Community Centre, High St, Eye between 12noon and 2pm.
