Interim shared director role announced for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire

Plans have been announced for Peterborough City Council's corporate director of people and communities to temporarily take charge of children, families and adult services at Cambridgeshire County Council.

A cabinet member decision notice signed by the leader of the council, Councillor John Holdich, has been published today (Thursday 29 September 2016) and follows an appointment decision by member at the county council on Tuesday (27 September 2016).

As a result Wendi Ogle-Welbourn will begin her new shared role working for both councils from early October 2016.

The appointment follows the departure of Cambridgeshire County Council’s director of children, families and adults, Adrian Loades who is leaving the council to take up a new position elsewhere.

The temporary position will save the council £89,309 a year.

Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: "Wendi has proven to be a talented director, leading all the council services that involve our communities, including those for vulnerable children and adults.

"So it is no surprise that the county council has asked us to consider a temporary job share whilst they are agreeing the future approach for delivering services for children and adults.

"Staff in children and adult services at both councils already work together, for example there is a shared emergency duty team for children's social care and services work closely on cases which involve families that live close to the council boundaries. In addition, Wendi already works closely with the county in the areas of domestic abuse, child and adult health, safeguarding and adult mental health.

"This temporary shared role will allow us to extend that partnership working to look at how we can provide residents with better and more cost effective services."

Cambridgeshire County Council leader Steve Count said: “We are delighted it has been agreed that Wendi Ogle-Welbourn will share the role of executive director for children, family and adult services between Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

"Wendi brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Cambridgeshire. It makes sense financially and helps bring continuity to this vital service as well as carrying on the good work carried out by Adrian Loades who we wish well in his new job.”
