Mayoral diary includes anniversary of Falklands War and the annual Dragon Boat Festival

Marking the 35th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War and Peterborough’s popular Dragon Boat Festival feature in the Mayor’s diary for the week. 

Saturday 10 June

The Mayor and Mayoress will attend the city’s annual Chinese boat racing Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday afternoon, handing out medals to winners. The festival takes place at Peterborough Rowing Club, Thorpe Meadows, PE3 6LN between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

In the evening the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will head to Peterborough Cathedral for the Summer Music Festival Concert. The concert with Choir, Organ and Orchestra takes place from 7pm to 9.30pm.

Sunday 11 June

Forces’ sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday will be celebrated at this year’s Festival on The Green which the Deputy Mayor will attend. The Festival takes place at Botolph Green, Orton Longueville, PE2, 10.45am - 3pm. 

The Mayor and Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will attend Festa della Repubblica, Italy’s Republic Day. The event takes place at the Italian Community Association, The Fleet, Fleet Way, High Street, Fletton PE2, 3pm - 5pm.

The Mayor and Mayoress will join the Masonic Parade from the Town Hall to Peterborough Cathedral and evensong, between 1.30pm and 6pm.

Tuesday 13 June

The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will attend the Rebadging Parade at the Army Reserve Centre, London Road, PE2 9BY, 7.30pm - 9pm.

Wednesday 14 June

The 35th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War will be marked with a civic procession and ceremony, including raising of the Falklands Islands flag. This will take place at the Peterborough War Memorial at 10.30am.

Monday 19 June

In the run-up to Armed Forces Day (24 June) the Union Flag will be raised at the Town Hall. The Fly the Flag for Armed Forces Day event will include a civic procession to the War Memorial ahead of a service and prayers with service personnel and veterans at 10am. 

Thursday 22 June

The Mayor's open day at the Town Hall is open to all, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, in the Reception Room. 

Friday 21 July 

A Caribbean Night with dancing and music from band Zeb Rootz will take place at the Millennium Club, Dickens Street, PE1 5GD, 6.30pm until late. Tickets for the fun-filled fundraiser are available by emailing
