Merchant Navy Day and Classic Vehicle Show keep Mayor busy

The raising of a flag to mark Merchant Navy Day and a visit to the second Peterborough Classic Vehicle Show are among the dates in the mayoral diary next week.

Wednesday 2 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will welcome Japanese local government delegates from Aichi Prefectural Government Department of Community Affairs for refreshments and exchanges of gifts. The visitors are in the UK to research ways in which the general public are engaged in preventing crime and creating a safer society especially around Neighbourhood Watch. The visit will take place in the Mayor's Parlour, Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 1pm and 2.30pm.

Thursday 3 September: The Mayor, Mayoress and Deputy Mayor will Raise the Red Ensign on Merchant Navy Day to pay tribute to the sacrifices of seafarers of the past and to show appreciation for British shipping today. The Mayor will make a speech followed by prayers. The gathering will take place at the War Memorial outside of the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough between 9.45am and 11am. The service is at 10.55am.

Thursday 3 September: The Deputy Mayor will attend the Peterborough Arts Festival Launch of Enchanted City light projections in the city centre at 19 to 21 Bridge Street, Peterborough between 7pm and 8pm.

Friday 4 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will visit the Dementia Resource Centre Anniversary Garden Party. The Garden Party is to celebrate the first anniversary of the Dementia Resource Centre opening which is a one stop shop for people with dementia and their carers to receive information support and advice. The party will be held at 441 Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough between 12noon and 4pm.

Saturday 5 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will visit the Peterborough Arts Festival to watch street performers on Cathedral Square, Peterborough. The Mayor and Mayoress will attend the performances between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Saturday 5 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will visit this year's Peterborough Classic Vehicle Show. The show is open to classic and vintage cars and caravans, motorcycles, scooters, commercial and agricultural vehicles, buses, ex-military and other forms of transport from yesteryear to modern classics. The Mayor and Mayoress will visit the show between 12.30pm and 2pm at Peterborough Embankment.

Saturday 5 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend The Little Miracles 5th Annual Ball which this year has a 1920s theme. This is a fundraising event for Little Miracles who support children with additional needs, disabilites and life limiting conditions. The event will take place at The Haycock Hotel, Wansford. The ball will start at 7pm until late.

Sunday 6 September: The Mayor and Mayoress will attend a Family Fun Day. The event is being organised by Friends of Central Park to encourage the use of the park and its facilities. The fun day will take place at Central Park, Park Crescent, Peterborough between 2pm and 6pm.
