National Democracy event in Mayor's Diary

A special event to celebrate National Democracy Week and a Portuguese Festival are dates in the Mayoral diary this week.

Tuesday 3 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will attend 'Democracy in a Day' at Peterborough Town Hall. The event takes place between 5pm and 8pm to mark National Democracy Week. Visitors will have the chance to find out more about local politics and how the council operates.

Thursday 5 July - The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will present awards to pupils at Ormiston Bushfield Academy in Peterborough. The school, which is based in Orton Centre Peterborough, is holding its annual awards evening between 5.45pm and 7.15pm.

Thursday 5 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will present awards to pupils from Peterborough Regional College. The college is holding its annual awards evening at Peterborough Cathedral from 6.30pm - 10pm.

Friday 6 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will welcome members of the FGB Bourges Association for a special twinning event at Broadway Theatre in Peterborough between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. Bourges in France, is one of five cities that Peterborough is twinned with.

Saturday 7 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will make a welcome speech to attendees at a Legion of Honour ceremony for Victor Golder. Victor (92) from Stanground, Peterborough, served as an Able Seaman during World War Two and is being awarded the Legion of Honour by the French Consular for helping to liberate the country. The event takes place in the Mayor's Parlour at Peterborough Town Hall from 11am - 1pm.

Saturday 7 July - The Deputy Mayor will open a summer fete at Paston All Saints Church in Itter Park, Paston, from 12pm to 3.45pm.

Sunday 8 July - The Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress will open a summer fun day being held by the Eye Open Space Group. This is the ninth year that the fete has been held, with the event taking place at Eye Community Centre in High Street, Eye.

Sunday 8 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will make a speech at a Portuguese Festival being held at Peterborough Rugby Union Club in Second Drove, Fengate, between 12.30pm and 2pm.

Sunday 8 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will attend an annual street party being held in Park Road, Peterborough, between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Sunday 8 July - The Mayor and Mayoress will attend a Welcome Service at Dogsthorpe Methodist Church in Birchtree Avenue, Peterborough, between 5.45pm and 8pm.
