Nominations are now open for Women Leaders Awards in Peterborough

Nominations are now open for the second Women Leaders Awards, an event that recognises and rewards women living or working within Peterborough who have contributed to the growth of their own particular sector and the ongoing success of the city.

When the awards were launched last year they were incredibly successful with over 100 nominations and over 400 attending the Gala Dinner in which winners were announced in each category. Inspiring stories were heard throughout the evening about women who had climbed the career ladder to achieve great things for their organisations and the city as a whole.

Today, on International Women's Day (8 March), nominations are now open again and there are a number of ways to get involved:

  • Nominate a female colleague, friend, employer or yourself
  • Sponsor a category
  • Book your place at the Gala Dinner on Friday 2 November (whole tables are available at the Peterborough Arena.

The awards are the brainchild of Jan Flawn CBE, founder of specialist neurological care provider, PJ Care, based in Bretton. She sought to set up the awards after winning the national CBI First Women of Business Services award in 2013 and wanted to recreate something in the city to showcase talented, inspiring and successful women.

This year's Women Leaders awards will once again have the support of some of Peterborough’s top employers including Peterborough City Council.

Annette Joyce, service director for city services and communications said: “The success of the awards last year highlighted that event is much needed in Peterborough. As a city we have a unique heritage centred around successful women and it is fitting that we celebrate current and future women leaders.

"In this way we can inspire confidence in the next generation of leaders and show those at the start of their careers that much can be achieved and that the 'glass ceiling' can and is being shattered at many organisations and businesses across the city on a daily basis."

The event was initially launched in Milton Keynes in 2015 and has become a prominent fixture within the city’s event calendar.  Last year’s awards event which was held at the Hilton DoubleTree MK Stadium attracted over 500 guests to the gala dinner and presentation.
