Residents are being urged to find out whether they could make a saving on their fuel bills during national Big Energy Saving Week.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, residents across Cambridgeshire have collectively lost £45million by not switching providers to get themselves the best deal.
However, in Peterborough it's a different story with more than 5,500 households saving almost £1.4million collectively by making the switch to the council's energy tariff - Peterborough Energy.
As part of Big Energy Saving Week, which launched yesterday (Monday) and runs until Sunday (6 November), Peterborough City Council is encouraging residents to find out whether they could save money on their fuel bills.
Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: "With the nights drawing in and the temperatures dropping now is the perfect time to find out whether you could save money on your fuel bills.
"Big Energy Saving Week is a great chance to show people the money that is being wasted by not shopping around and getting the best deal. That's money that's not in our residents' pockets and being spent in our local economy.
"If you're worried it might take too long to switch to Peterborough Energy - you couldn't be further from the truth. Simply visit the Peterborough Energy website, enter a few details for a quote and then you can complete the switch online or on the phone. We'll also liaise with your existing energy supplier so that you don't need to."
