City drivers are being offered free pre-winter vehicle checks in the Car Haven Car Park in the city centre this Wednesday (24 October).
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership is working with Kwik Fit to offer free vehicle checks for all drivers. An experienced technician from Kwik Fit will be checking oil and water levels as well as condition of lights, tyres and windscreen wipers from 10am to 2pm.
Drivers will also receive advice on winter driving, and will receive free winter driving tools, including a 'tread buddy' a quick and easy device to help check tyre tread depth and an ice scraper.
Jenny Wright, prevention and enforcement officer for the Safer Peterborough Partnership said: "The aim of the event is to encourage drivers to think about getting their vehicles ready for winter and keeping them maintained to withstand adverse weather conditions.
"Drivers also need to think about how the weather conditions can affect our driving. Weather can be unpredictable and it can take up to twice as long to stop when roads are wet rather than dry and up to ten times longer to stop when roads are icy.
"Carrying out simple checks including tyres, lights and windscreen wash level before setting off is vital”.
