The world-renowned Pearl Izumi Tour Series soon races back to Peterborough today (Tuesday 9 June).
Peterborough will host round nine of the event, with riders racing along the now familiar city centre route. Bourges Boulevard, Bridge Street, Church Street and Cowgate will all play host to a flash of technicolour as racers power past an expected crowd of spectators.
Once again Britain's leading male cyclists take to the streets of Peterborough with three former Olympic champions, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Bradley Wiggins possible contenders for the Pearl Izumi Tour Series. This year three female former Olympic champions, Dani King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell are also set to feature in the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series.
This year's event is expected to feature two local riders, Keira McVitty, racing for Team Giordana Triton in the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series and Steve Lamper, racing for Team Raleigh GAC in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
Keira McVitty, of Team Giordana Triton, said: "I remember watching the tour series growing up. It's inspiring to now see the women racing alongside the men. Back then I didn't ever think it would be me speeding around the city centre, rubbing shoulders with Olympic champions!
"It's a brilliant event for the city and it's special to me because all my friends and family can come and support!"
Annette Joyce, service director city services and communications said: "There is always a carnival atmosphere in Peterborough whenever the Pearl Izumi Tour Series rolls into town, so I am very pleased we are once again hosting this fantastic event.
"We are rightly proud of our city centre, having recently refurbished much of the route the Tour will follow, so I know the event will be a great showcase for the city.
"ITV4 is again filming the event, so if you like what you see when you watch the race, come and visit us to see what Peterborough has to offer."
