Peterborough residents save half a million pounds by switching to Peterborough Energy

Peterborough residents have saved a combined total of £500,000 on their gas and electricity bills by switching to Peterborough Energy.

The tariff, which launched in April 2015, has seen a strong take up of customers with the 2,000th resident signing up this month.

Formed by Peterborough City Council and award winning national supplier OVO Energy, Peterborough Energy aims to save residents money by offering competitively priced, fair tariffs.

Christine White, from Bretton, was the 2,000th customer to switch and received a hamper to mark the milestone.

Mrs White, who can expect to save £165 a year on her energy bills, said: "I am in my seventies and, as for all pensioners, looking after money is important.

"I had been meaning to switch for a while but I finally did it after calling the Peterborough Energy phone number to switch.

"As this is the first ever time I have switched I found the process to be very smooth. I will now be encouraging my family and friends to do the same."

The average saving for dual fuel customers who pay monthly is £242*.

Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: "We hoped the scheme would prove to be popular due to the competitively priced tariffs available, but it has really picked up pace since the turn of the year.

"I know of one resident in Glinton who switched and will now save £800 a year. This will make such a difference to residents and their disposable income.

"The council is not making any profit from the scheme, the aim is to offer and promote fair, competitively priced energy tariffs to all our residents."

Peterborough Energy also has a gas and electricity tariff available to all city residents with pre-payment meters (Peterborough Energy PAYG).

If you’ve switched to Peterborough Energy, don’t forget to tell your friends. Both you and your friend will receive a £20 Amazon voucher when they switch too**.

You can either do this by logging into your account online and adding their details, or your friend can click 'been referred by a friend?' when accepting their quote.

The Peterborough Energy Shop on Bridge Street has provided a place for residents to find out more about the scheme in person during the winter months. The shop will close as planned at the end of February, so for information on switching, see www.peterboroughenergy.co.uk or call 0800 408 6706 for pay monthly customers or 0800 408 6710 for Pay As You Go (PAYG).
