Save pounds on your energy bill as winter weather arrives

With winter temperatures set to dip below freezing this weekend, residents are urged to think about switching energy supplier to save money on their utility bills.

Icy weather and frost is forecast for Peterborough following weeks of unseasonably mild weather. Cold weather can add pounds to energy bills so now is the time to check you are on the best tariff for your usage.

One tariff, Peterborough Energy, has enabled more than 1,600 residents to save an average of £242 a year on their gas and electricity bills, since it launched last year.

Formed by Peterborough City Council and award winning national supplier OVO Energy, Peterborough Energy aims to save residents money by offering competitively priced, fair tariffs.

Councillor John Holdich, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: "It has taken a while to arrive but it looks like winter is finally here in Peterborough, with temperatures a lot chillier this week and set to dip below freezing this weekend.

"Residents will be thinking about heating their homes for longer to fend off the cold and this costs money.

"Hundreds of people in Peterborough, including myself, have switched to Peterborough Energy, and will now be seeing a reduction in their bills. Make sure you don't miss out on these potential savings by visiting the Energy Savings Shop in Bridge Street, or the Peterborough Energy website, to find out more.

"And please do look out for any elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may need extra support in the cold weather."

Councillor John Holdich is now potentially £450 better off each year as a Peterborough Energy customer. The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor John Peach, has also made the switch, with an estimated annual saving of £400.

Peterborough Energy also has a competitively priced gas and electricity tariff available to all city residents with pre-payment meters.

If you’ve switched to Peterborough Energy, don’t forget to tell your friends. Both you and your friend will receive a £20 Amazon voucher when they switch too.

You can either do this by logging into your account online and adding their details, or your friend can click 'been referred by a friend?' when accepting their quote.

A shop on Bridge Street in the city centre is there to assist residents in saving on their energy bills. The Energy Savings Shop's opening hours are 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday.
