Travelchoice is getting ready for the 15th annual Travel Plan awards in its role as advocate for sustainable travel in Peterborough.

The awards, organised by Travelchoice and Travel for Cambridgeshire, will form part of a conference and networking event to be held at the Allia Future Business Centre on 22 February 2017.

One of the awards will be presented by the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor David Sanders.

Speaking about the awards, Councillor Sanders said: "Some of the ideas and work being done by local businesses to encourage staff to travel more sustainably is truly inspiring.

"The awards recognise not only those who have formal travel policies in place, but also those who are committed to innovations in transportation which should contribute to the reduction in traffic and pollution around our city."

The main Travel Plan Award is for companies that have either produced or are implementing a travel plan with innovation, enthusiasm and investment.

The second award, the Sustainable Travel Initiative, recognises innovation in sustainable travel and those companies committed to inspiring and motivating colleagues to try something a bit different, even if they don't have a formal travel plan in place.

Last year's winners Ikea and Queensgate were both recognised for their efforts to engage employees with their vision for increasing the use of sustainable travel options such as cycling, the use of electric vehicles and car sharing.

Travelchoice has worked with 57 businesses over the last year including Queensgate, Serpentine Green and Thomas Cook.

Travelchoice also has a partnership with Jobcentre Plus where they donate funding for those people looking for work to have a free daily bus pass. This is to help people with the job search process and travel to interviews. More than 200 passes were given out in the last year.

The conference will feature talks and presentations from Sustrans, Peterborough DNA, Atkins Global and PECT who will be sharing their experiences and offering practical tips for motivating staff to travel more sustainability.
