Tributes paid to former councillor

16 May 2023

Tributes have been paid to a former Peterborough City Councillor who served the authority for over 40 years, after he passed away recently.

Geoff Ridgway was first elected as a councillor in the 1960s and served up until 2008. He was Mayor of Peterborough from 1991-92 and also served as the council's cabinet member for education.

Councillor Wayne Fitzgerald, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: “Geoff was a true professional who dedicated many years of service to the council.

“He left the authority just a couple of years after I joined as a councillor back in 2006. In the time that I worked with him his passion for Peterborough and dedication to the council was clear to see.

“I am extremely saddened to hear of Geoff’s passing. We will be sending a formal Letter of Condolence to his family and plan to lower flags outside the Town Hall on the day of his funeral.”

Anyone who would like to send cards or letters of condolence, they should be sent to the following address:

Paula D'Arcy, 16 Bolsover Hill, Bolsover, Chesterfield, S44 6BG.

Flowers to be sent to John Lucas Funeral Directors, 31 Dogsthorpe Road, Peterborough PE1 3AD.

A funeral will be held on at Longthorpe Church at 1pm on Wednesday 24 May, followed by a committal at Peterborough Crematorium at 2pm.
