New community pavilion set for Cardea

Residents / 17 Mar 2015

Residents will be able to view plans for the new Cardea Community Pavilion at an open evening organised by Peterborough City Council and the principal contractor Clegg Construction Ltd.

The new community pavilion is planned as part of the residential development around Cardea. Developers and builders have made monies available through S106 agreements towards the pavilion, which will be built by Clegg Construction.

Building of the new pavilion will start in August 2015. It is anticipated that the pavilion will be handed over to a new community group to operate in Spring 2016. The building will include changing rooms, a meeting room, community room, kitchen, storage, toilets and car parking facilities. The design process to date has included representatives from Peterborough City Council and Vivacity. Cardea Residents Association and Cardea Community Sports Association have also been involved in the design process.

The building will be a multi-purpose venue that can be used by different groups during the day, evenings and weekends. It has been designed to accommodate pre-school activities, early years events, as well as organised activities and community sports events.

To ensure residents have the opportunity to view the proposed designs and offer any feedback an event will be held Thursday 26 March between 6.00pm and 8pm in the community hall at St Michaels Church School on Constantine Drive.

Councillor Marco Cereste, cabinet member for growth, strategic planning, housing, economic development and business engagement, said: "The new Cardea Community Pavilion will be a fantastic addition to the local community. It will provide much-needed sports facilities and has been designed to be multi-purpose, meaning local community groups can make full use of the centre.

"The council is committed to ensuring that residents have the facilities they need to keep fit and active and play a part in local life. This new centre will be able to host everything from flower arranging clubs to football teams so I know it will be well used.

"We have been working hard with the main contractor, Clegg Construction, to make sure we get the best deal for residents. I encourage people to come down and see what will be on offer and give us your views before we move towards submitting a planning application."
