Diwali literally means an array of lights and it is a time filled with light and love; a time when Indians all over the world rejoice in their triumph of good over evil.
Traditionally, people light candles and clay lamps, houses are decorated and sweets and presents are exchanged. These traditions will be celebrated at the festival, which promises to be a fantastic event that showcases the multi-cultural diversity of Peterborough.
Peterborough will be celebrating Diwali in Cathedral square on 22 October with proceedings starting at 11am. Celebrations have been marked in Cathedral square for the last three years and the Peterborough Diwali Festival Committee are aiming to make this one the best yet.
Local residents and visitors will be able to sample traditional Indian foods as well as learn more about the festival.
