SEND Youth Voice

“Big Youth Shout Out”

The council believes that young people from all walks of life should have the opportunity to have their voices heard.

There are many services in Peterborough focused on providing young people with help and support, things to do and places to go. We think that young people should be actively involved in decisions that affect those services both at individual and organisational level.

To support young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to become more involved, Peterborough City Council, Jack Hunt School and City College Peterborough have come together to create the “Big Youth Shout Out” Film Project.

“Big Youth Shout Out” was conceived by young people for young people by the City College Peterborough Youth Access Champions. The main aim is to support young people to get involved in the conversation about fair and equal access to services and the value of youth voice.

The four main strands to the project are:-

  • The Workshops - the access champions are presently offering film workshops in schools across the City, engaging young people in conversations about the services that they receive. (Please ask your school about this if you wish to sign up)
  • The Film – young people who wish to join the big youth shout out film production crew can join the access champions to continue their journey of participation and youth voice.
  • The Boardroom – to ensure that young people’s voices are heard at the highest level, a young people’s SEND champion will be recruited. This young person will sit on the youth council and have the opportunity to represent young people in meetings with higher level decision makers in the City.
  • The Launch – Once our film is finished we would like it to be seen by as many people as possible and therefore we will launch our film as a celebration of our success.

We have contacted all schools in the City about “The Big Youth Shout Out”.  The link below contains a copy of the letter if you wish to read it.
