About the Pride in Place Programme

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has selected Peterborough to receive up to £40m of Pride in Place funding to support regeneration in the city.

Pride in Place is a Government funding programme. It is aimed at putting power into the hands of local people in some of the most in-need neighbourhoods across the UK, so that they can decide how to regenerate their local area.

It gives communities control of £2m every year for the next 10 years, to be spent on projects that will make a real difference to the areas they live.

A key part of the programme is that it is locally led, by those who know their communities best.

Areas of Peterborough involved

The Government has pledged £40m to Peterborough for:

  • Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland
  • Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay

The funding, which will be split equally between the two areas, will support the delivery of investment and improvement in community services, such as regeneration, education, health and employment.

Recruitment to Neighbourhood Boards

A key part of the programme is that it is locally led, by those who know their communities best. It is for this reason that residents are being invited to apply to become members for each of the two boards.

We’re looking for local people who care about their community and want to help shape the future of their area. If you live, work, volunteer, or are simply passionate about what happens in Orton Malborne, Orton Goldhay and Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland, we’d love to hear from you.

Why should you get involved?

Board Members will help guide the Pride in Place programme, which is funded through a £40million Pride in Place investment to support long-term improvements in local neighbourhoods.

By becoming a board member, you will help deliver lasting change in our communities using the aforementioned £40m Pride in Place funding. You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience - what matters is your passion, your ideas, and your connection to the community.

We want people who know their neighbourhoods, understand what matters to local residents, and are happy to bring forward the voices and experiences of others.

The roles are voluntary, but reasonable expenses (for example travel, childcare, or other caring costs) will be reimbursed.

Applicants must live, work, volunteer, or have a strong connection to the area. The roles are not suitable for people applying to represent an organisation seeking Pride in Place funding. Members will be expected to follow the Board’s code of conduct and work in line with the principles of public life.

How to apply

You can apply by sending up to 500 words by email to prideinplace@peterborough.gov.uk before Friday 22 May 2026.

Applicants should tell us about themselves, why they want to become a board member, highlight their community passions and examples of how they have supported others or contributed locally.

Neighbourhood regeneration board chairs announced

In January 2026, the city's MPs and council appealed for applicants to chair new Neighbourhood Boards covering:

  • Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland
  • Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay.

The chairs will bring together residents, community organisations, businesses and public partners to co-create a long-term Pride in Place Plan for the areas. Each board will be required to submit a regeneration plan to Government, setting out how the money will be spent.

On March 23 2026, the council and local MPs confirmed the appointment:

  • Jonathan Jelley MBE JP to chair the Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland Board
  • Ejaz Moghul to chair the Orton Malborne and Goldhay Board
