Peterborough City Council is launching an older adults community activities grant scheme and would like to hear from representatives from groups and charities which could help people aged over 65 with physical activity groups, lunch clubs, community transport, cultural activities and peer support groups.

The authority is currently inviting groups to bid for grants of up to £4,000 before the deadline of 21 December. Grants will be offered for a period of two years, with the potential to extend for up to four further years.

Groups will need to meet certain criteria to apply for the grants. For more information about this and to apply for funding visit www.peterborough.gov.uk/community-activities-grants

Councillor Saqib Farooq, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said: “We are fully committed to helping older residents to get active, learn new skills and make friends as part of our work to create, strong and sustainable communities.

“This is a unique chance for groups to get funding, so I would urge them to get in touch and for everyone to make any community groups and organisations aware about this scheme so they can help make a real difference to older people in our communities.”

Grant applications will be evaluated by a panel with representation from various local government departments.

The panel will consider the amount of funding requested by organisations in conjunction with the number of older adults expected to benefit, as well as other details submitted within this application form.
