The Vine is part the government funded Towns Deal programme, aiming to create a thriving hub for residents, businesses and visitors to enjoy dedicated spaces across the city centre.
The project will see refurbishment of the ground floor in Central Library and Goods Shed building in Fletton Quays, a derelict former railway building. There is also potential for the refurbishment of a section of the Peterscourt building, to accommodate start-up businesses and provider maker spaces.
By offering a range of facilities in locations across the city, The Vine aims to:
- Provide an improved, digital focused library service
- Flexible workspace for small businesses and business incubator opportunities
- Food and drinks offering in a new unique food hall
- Education and community space
Councillor Nick Thulbourn, Cabinet Member for Growth and Regeneration, said: “Ultimately, we want all of The Vine sites to encourage more people into the city centre and for them to provide opportunities for residents and business to access spaces that enable them to connect, learn and thrive.”
The City Council owns the Peterscourt building and detailed designs and surveys for the space are in development. Before a decision can be made, the Towns Fund board will discuss and consider The Vine options at the next meeting in February.
