Hot weather service update - waste and recycling

Due to the extremely hot weather, we made temporary changes to our waste and recycling collection service between Wednesday 24 June and Friday 26 June to protect our crews while they continued to work in challenging conditions.

The vast majority of collections were completed as planned, however a small number of properties recycling collections remain outstanding on the following roads:

  • Lockwood Way
  • Aqua Drive
  • Jones Hill
  • Gavel Street
  • Old Bailey Road
  • Magistrates Road
  • County Road
  • Kielder Gardens

Unfortunately, we are unable to return to complete these outstanding collections before the next scheduled recycling day. These properties will therefore be prioritised on their next scheduled recycling collection. To make up for the missed collection, residents may place additional recycling alongside their bin in clear bags or in cardboard boxes only, no black bags please.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents for their patience and understanding while we took steps to keep our workforce safe during the heatwave.

How to safely dispose of batteries and vapes

Batteries and disposable vapes should never be placed inside household waste and recycling bins. They can cause fires in our collection vehicles. In 2023, we dealt with 10 fires in our collection vehicles.

Visit our battery and vapes disposal page for more information.
