Bulky waste collection

Community bulky waste collections - coming soon

We will shortly be launching city-wide free bulky waste collections, with plans for one free community bulky waste collection in each ward for the remainder of 2026/27 currently being developed.

Collections are set to start on Saturday 3 October 2026. Full details, including dates, times and locations for each wards, will be published shortly. In the meantime, for further information or assistance, we encourage you to contact your local ward councillor.

The proposals include increasing free collections to two per year in each ward during 2027/28, and further updates will be announced in due course.

We offer a bulky waste collection service for various household items for local residents. This is a chargeable service. We do not accept commercial or industrial items.

Arrange a household bulky waste collection

You can book bulky waste collections from the same portal used to check and report household bin collections.

  • Collections will be arranged for the same day as your normal black bin collection
  • You will need an email address, phone number and a debit or credit card to book online
  • If you are not able to book online, you can contact Customer Services using the contact details below

Costs

We charge £30 for a bulky waste collection (one to five items). If you have more than five items you will need to book a second collection on a different day.

How many items can be collected?

We will collect one to five items per booking.

  • During the booking process, you will have to specify the items being collected from the available list within our booking application. A full list is also available in the frequently asked questions section below.
  • If you upload a picture of your item(s) for collection please ensure it matches the item selected from the list.
  • If the item is not on the list please see 'frequently asked questions' section on this page.
  • We will not collect any items that you do not specify at time of booking.
  • Please do not leave any extra items for collection.

What do I need to do on collection day?

Please make sure you:

  • Place your items outside by 6.45am, they should be collected by 4.30pm
  • Put all your items for collection where we normally collect your black bin from and where our Collection Team can see them easily
  • If an item states it needs to be bagged, cleaned or dismantled, please do so
  • Leave items safe and secure - don't block pedestrian access or obstruct the highway

Our Collection Team cannot enter properties or gardens and will not bag or dismantle items. Please arrange with member of your family, friends, etc to help you get items ready for collection. If you receive or are eligible for assisted bin collections, we could provide additional help (see frequently asked questions below).

Your items may be collected by more than one vehicle which could arrive at different times within the day of booking (this is likely if you have electrical and non-electrical goods to be collected).

Items not made ready for collection, will not be collected.

We may be able to quote for the collection of the following items or where you have more than 5 items for single collection by calling 01733 747474. Your request will be assessed by the collection team and a price advised if the collection is possible.

Items we don't collect

  • Car parts
  • Asbestos
  • Mobility scooters
  • UPVC windows and doors
  • Commercial fridges (Examples of commercial fridges include large glass-fronted beer fridges / bottle coolers, display fridges, ice cream fridges (glass topped ones) and any other large glass fronted fridges. In general, anything that does not look like a domestic household fridge)

Disposing of other items

If you are looking to dispose of furniture in a reasonable condition, please consider passing these items on to a local charity, such as:

Free alternatives

You can take a wide range of items to the Household Recycling Centre free of charge.
Contact a local charity shop, some may offer a collection service (free or a small charge).

Use local trading sites

Use Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Freecycle - etc. You may even be able to sell the item, but those in poor condition can be given away for free, maybe for parts, and the buyer can collect from you.

Amendments

To amend a booking (add or remove items) please call 01733 747474 and quote your booking reference. You can amend the items in your booking up until 2pm the working day before the collection is scheduled. You could also cancel the collection and start a new one online.

Cancellations and refunds

You will receive a refund if you cancel by 2pm the day before the collection is scheduled. If you booked the collection online, you will have received an email that includes a link to cancel your order. 

If you created an account, you can also visit our waste works portal to view and cancel bookings. Alternatively, you can cancel by contacting customer services on 01733 747474 (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays).

We cannot issue a refund if:

  • on the day of collection, someone else other than us removes your items
  • your uncollected items were not listed for collection / prepared for collection correctly.

If we haven't collected your bulky waste on the arranged day, please contact customer services on 01733 747474 (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays).

  • Items not listed for collection, or not made ready for collection will not be collected.

The information you provide will be used to arrange and complete a bulky waste collection and will only be shared with Aragon Direct Services as they deliver the service on the council's behalf.
