Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Lead Schools for the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Music Education Hub, part of the national network of hubs developing music education across the region, funded by the Department for Education, designed to implement the National Plan for Music Education.

The Lead Schools, which are William Law CE Primary School (Peterborough based), Nene Park Academy (Peterborough based), Holywell CofE Primary School, Linton Heights Junior School and Chesterton Community College, are selected for their excellence in music provision and will play a pivotal role in:

  • Developing strong music curricular and co-curricular programmes
  • Supporting progression pathways for young musicians
  • Fostering partnerships with schools, providers, and community organisations
  • Ensuring access to music education regardless of background or ability

Cllr Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Peterborough City Council said:  “Congratulations to the five Lead Schools selected in recognition of their excellence in music provision. Music education, learning instruments, singing, and exploring creativity greatly benefits children’s education and well-being and most importantly their passion for learning. As the Music Education Hub grows, I have no doubt it will nurture talent and inspire a lifelong love of learning and music appreciation. Personally, I’ve seen my own children thrive thanks to the Music Hub, experiencing how music and the arts help young people flourish. Something we want for all the children and families of Peterborough”

Kirsten Goldthorp, Head of Peterborough Music Hub, added: "This partnership marks a significant step forward in our mission to make music education accessible and inspiring for all. By sharing expertise and resources, we can create a vibrant, inclusive musical landscape across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough."

Rachel Moorhouse, Music Lead at William Law CofE Primary School, Peterborough, added: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as a lead school for primary music. We will continue to support school-to-school practice and teaching pedagogy; the hub's musical experiences and opportunities and help develop quality musical education for every child in our locality.”

Tim Amos, Music Lead at Nene Park Academy, Peterborough, added: “We have always worked closely with Peterborough Music Hub, and we are thrilled to now have the opportunity to strengthen this partnership and build even closer relationships with local schools — all with the shared goal of providing outstanding music education and opportunities for the children and young people of Peterborough.”

The Music Education Hub will operate through the strategic board and two programme boards - one for each local authority - ensuring tailored delivery that meets the unique needs of each area. The Hub will also invest in new instruments, technology, and resources, including support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
