Advocacy is listening to you, supporting you to speak up, supporting you to make your own choices and decisions, and supporting you to access your rights as a member of the local community.
The aim of advocacy is for people to speak up for themselves as far as possible. In Peterborough the local commissioned advocacy provider is POhWER.
POhWER
POhWER deliver a range of statutory and non-statutory advocacy services to the residents of Peterborough in partnership with Cambridgeshire Deaf Association.
They offer the following services in Peterborough:
- Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA), including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Relevant Person's Paid Representative Services (RPPR)
- Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)
- Independent Care Act Advocacy for residents of Peterborough, including those that reside at HMP Peterborough
- NHS Complaints Advocacy
- Community Advocacy for people with Learning Disability and/or Autism
