How the service works

We can provide an assisted collection service to residents who are unable to move their bins to the kerbside due to ill health, disability or mobility issues.

We will only provide assistance where there is no other person living at the property who is able to move the bins on behalf of the resident.

Once you are signed up, we will collect your bins from an agreed collection point and return them to the same place.

Please note our collection crews do not enter back gardens or properties to retrieve bins.

How to apply for the service

Please call us on 01733 747474 between Monday and Friday, 9am to 5pm to discuss. You can also email us at ask@peterborough.gov.uk.

We reserve the right to carry out checks to make sure we only provide the service for those in genuine need.

Let us know if you no longer need the service

If your circumstances change and you no longer require this service, please let us know so we can amend our records.

Our policy on assisted bin collection

Falls are increasingly common in older people, sometimes leading to injuries that can cost people their independence. Many falls can be avoided with the right help. Our aim is to help prevent falls and fall-related injuries

Did you know six out of ten falls happen in the home or garden? Improving safety in the home can help prevent people having falls and injuring themselves, allowing them to continue to live independently.

For more information, read the interactive Steady on Your Feet Home Safety checklist to help identify hazards and improve home safety. Using the Steady on Your Feet self-assessment tool can help people understand what is putting them at risk of falling and things people can do to help themselves stay steady, mobile and independent.

What do we offer?

When a risk has been identified that is related to reduced strength and balance action can be taken to improve strength and balance.
