Our Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Licensing teams cover a tremendous breadth of regulatory functions from food production, packaging, labelling, retail, marketing, storage and hygiene, to ensuring everyday products such as toys and electric products sold to consumers are safe. From making sure planning applications don't unduly impact on the environmental or the wellbeing of those in the vicinity, to licensing certain businesses to uphold public safety.

Between them, our officers have decades of expertise in their fields. We are keen to support businesses in their compliance, helping them to understand how these laws apply to their particular business model or issue.

Below you will find information on the three different types of business advice service we offer.

Business advice under the Primary Authority scheme

'Primary Authority' is a national scheme where your business can enter into an ongoing advisory agreement with Trading Standards and / or Environmental Health and / or Licensing, depending on your business needs or sector.

Our expert advisers provide businesses with regulatory advice and support services. This team is known as the 'Regulatory Companion'.

Business advice signposting

We realise that many businesses are keen to try and find the answers to issues themselves, but can't always find where to start. To assist with this, we offer a business signposting service. Having received information from you regarding the specific issue you are trying to resolve, one of our experts will send you the most useful links online to assist you.

This service is free of charge, but it is important to note that no bespoke advice is included in this service.
