This offer is for Care Leavers who are currently in custody or have experience of custody. Your Personal Advisor will help you plan for when you leave and what happens next.
What Care Leavers are entitled to
- £10 a week while you are in custody
- £100 clothing allowance when you are released and an additional £100 for clothing if you need it
- Support from your Personal Advisor if you are arrested, during your time in custody and upon your release
What to expect
- After you are arrested and charged, tell staff you are a Care Leaver so the right people can be told
- While you are waiting for sentence, your Personal Advisor should stay in touch and start planning with you
- While you are in custody, there should be staff you can speak to about your wellbeing and accessing support
- You can also ask to speak to an advocate if you need help or feel worried
- Before you leave custody, your Pathway Plan should be updated to cover money, housing, education, training or work
- Your Personal Advisor may work with Custody Staff, a Youth Offending Team worker or Probation, depending on your situation
Planning for release
- Your Personal Advisor will keep in touch with you by email while you are in custody
- Your Personal Advisor can help you with accessing education, training and jobs
- You can get 1:1 advice at the Care Leavers Hub on CVs, interviews and career ideas
- Your Personal Advisor can help you to sort out housing if you need somewhere to live
- If needed, your Personal Advisor can speak to the prison on your behalf about your wellbeing and the support you need
