Driving lessons scheme

We have a limited number of places each year for Care Leavers to learn to drive with an instructor in Peterborough.

  • Places available: around 15 to 20 places for Care Leavers
  • When: July to December 2026
  • Lesson schedule: one lesson per week, two hours long
  • Who can apply: Peterborough Care Leavers aged 18–25 - you do not need to be in education, employment or training
  • What you must have by the start date: a provisional driving licence and you must have passed your theory test by the scheme start date in June
  • Location: you must be Peterborough-based or willing and able to travel to Peterborough for weekly lessons
  • Waiting list: we may have extra spaces between July and December if someone passes early or drops out. If the scheme is full, we will keep a waiting list, and available places will be given to those first come first served for those on the waiting list.

We can support you to apply for your provisional driving licence. We can pay for one theory test and one practical driving test. If you need to retake a test, you will need to pay for any extra attempts yourself.

Email Elle.Johnson@peterborough.gov.uk to ask questions or to join the scheme.
